How it works

How Renovara works

Renovara connects Claude or ChatGPT to Australian electricity and gas market data from AEMO, with an analyst guide that tells the model how to query it correctly. This page sets out the service in full, what data it holds, how current it is, how to connect, and what it can't answer.

What Renovara is

Renovara is a data service for people who work with the National Electricity Market (NEM) and the east coast gas market: analysts, traders, engineers and advisers. It is not a dashboard. You keep using the AI assistant you already use, Claude or ChatGPT, and Renovara gives it two things it doesn't have on its own:

  • The data. AEMO's published market data, cleaned and loaded into tables the assistant can query with SQL.
  • An analyst guide. Instructions the assistant reads before it queries: which table answers which question, the traps in each one (intervention pricing, run numbers, market time) and worked examples.

You ask in plain English, for example "What was the average Queensland price during last week's heatwave?". The assistant writes the SQL, runs it against Renovara and shows its working. Nobody on your side needs to write SQL or Python, or maintain a data pipeline.

How you connect

  1. Start a 30-day free trial at renovara.co/signup. No card is needed. The email you use becomes your Renovara sign-in.
  2. Open the welcome email. It links to the setup guide at renovara.co/connect-ai.
  3. Add the connector in Claude or ChatGPT with one address: https://mcp.renovara.co/mcp. There is no client ID or API key to copy.
  4. Sign in with a one-time code emailed to you. There is no password. A sign-in lasts seven days.
  5. Check it works by asking "Who am I on Renovara?". The assistant replies with your email and whether your access is active.

Setup takes about five minutes, with no one to wait for.

How the data stays current

Renovara refreshes its tables daily from AEMO's published reports. Electricity dispatch data is held at AEMO's five-minute interval; demand and rooftop solar at the half hour; gas data by gas day. Market timestamps are AEST (UTC+10, no daylight saving), as AEMO publishes them.

When Renovara adds a dataset, it appears in the analyst guide the assistant reads and in the catalogue below. Nothing changes on your side: the next question can use it.

Data available

Every table Renovara serves, grouped by what it covers. The assistant sees the same list, with each table's columns and their meaning. Table names are in external_data.nemweb.

48 tables. Row counts and start dates measured 1 October 2026; the tables have grown since.

What it can and can't answer

It answers questions the tables above can answer: prices and their drivers, demand, generation by unit or fuel, interconnector flows, binding constraints, forecasts against actuals, rooftop solar, unit registration details and east coast gas flows, storage and capacity. Much of the electricity history runs back to January 2019.

It can't answer:

  • Questions that need a dataset not listed above. If you need one, tell us at info@renovara.co.
  • Questions about the Western Australian electricity or gas markets, which AEMO runs separately from the NEM and the east coast Gas Bulletin Board.
  • Questions about today's intervals before the daily refresh has loaded them.
  • Your own private data, such as meter reads, contracts or settlement statements.

Answers come from an AI model querying the data. The SQL is shown so you can check it; check figures before relying on them for a trading or investment decision. Renovara does not give financial advice.

Example questions

  • What was the average spot price in each region last month, and how did it compare with the same month last year?
  • Which units set the South Australian price most often in the last quarter, and on what fuel?
  • How much did rooftop solar reduce operational demand in Victoria at midday last week?
  • Which constraints bound most often between Queensland and New South Wales this year?
  • How accurate was AEMO's rooftop solar forecast for New South Wales yesterday?
  • What was the daily revenue of a given battery over the last 30 days?
  • How much gas flowed through the major east coast pipelines each day last month?
  • Which gas facilities have capacity reductions planned in the coming months?
